Chaenomeles x superba 'Crimson and Gold' also known as Japanese Quince is a bushy, spreading non-evergreen shrub with spiny branches, dark, glossy green leaves, deep red flowers with bright yellow centres in spring which are followed by apple-shaped, edible yellow fruits in autumn which are fragrant when ripe. This delightful plant is best grown against a sunny wall or trellis in a cottage or informal style garden and is easy to look after.
