Clematis viticella 'Royal Velours' produces very pretty, velvety dark red-purple flowers with a hint of mauve on each petal with dark purple-red and grey centres from July to September.
Clematis viticella 'Royal Velours' was raised by Francisque Morel of Lyon, France and brought into cultivation by William Robinson of Gravetye Manor and his head gardener Ernest Markham.
How to grow
This non-evergreen climber can be grown against a trellis, garden fence, wall, arches, pillars, pergolas, clambering over tree stumps or through large shrubs in the flower border.
